Diploma work topics

Please send your application for B.Sc. thesis, M.Sc. thesis, Students’ Scientific Competition thesis, individual assignment by e-mail to the designated professor with a brief introduction (BSc/MSc, degree, specialisation, planned date of graduation, subject area)!

Topic 1. Bioleaching of valuable elements from bauxite residue

Extraction of valuable elements (critical raw materials, e.g. Sc, Ga, Li, V, rare earth elements) frombauxite residue by microorganisms. Technology development, laboratory controlled flask experiments, method development. Process monitoring e.g. HPLC, ICP, SEM and microscopy.

Nature of work: laboratory biotechnology procedures, culture of filamentous fungi and autotrophic bacteria, flask culture procedures. Application of different microorganisms and carbon sources. Monitoring of technological processes by pH measurement, biomass determination, HPLC, ICP, SEM measurements.

Detailed topic:

  • Bioleaching experiments with microorganisms isolated from bauxite residue with Hungarian and Greek bauxite residue
  • Bioleaching experiments with microorganisms from strain collections with different bauxite residue

Thesis supervisor: Dr. Viktória Feigl, feigl.viktoria@vbk.bme.hu

Individual assignment (also for 1 semester); thesis, diploma thesis and Students’ Scientific Competition topic option for 1-2 students (min. for 2 semesters).
